Ben Franklin’s Birthday

Ben Franklin’s Birthday

Benjamin Franklin, one of our founding fathers, was born on January 17th, 1706 in Massachusetts. He is most famous for co-writing the Declaration of Independence and his research on electricity...but that’s not all!

Benjamin Franklin was in the printing industry throughout his life!

Ben Franklin worked for his older brother, James, at a print shop since he was 12 years old. He loved to write and print and that passion remained throughout his life. In 1724, he left for London to purchase supplies to buy a printing store; he ended up working at local print shops before he returned to the United States.

In 1728, Benjamin Franklin bought a shop that he then used to print paper money for Pennsylvania and Delaware. His printing shop also printed out election pamphlets, books and more. Only a year after acquiring his own print shop, he made enough money to purchase the Pennsylvania Gazette and grew the newspaper into the most successful newspaper among all the colonies! In 1730, Ben Franklin was deemed the official printer of Pennsylvania. Ten years later, he became the official printer of New Jersey.

Ben Franklin had many accomplishments and to think that owning a successful print shop was one of his many dreams he fulfilled.

Pantone Colors of the Year 2021

Pantone Colors of the Year 2021

As you know, last year’s choice was a classic blue, meant to convey reassurance as we entered a new decade...before COVID-19 spread globally. This year, Pantone selected two colors for 2021: 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + 13-0647 Illuminating.

The Pantone Institute has a big task every year...it is not just about selecting a color, but researching and forecasting trends in many industries (fashion, beauty, interior decor, etc.).

This is not the first time two colors have been chosen, but it is only the second time in the past 21 years. This is the first time for Pantone to pick an achromatic color, a shade not using color but only a gradient of black and white. Some critics believe Pantone played it safe and didn’t quite know how the year was going to turn out so they picked two colors.

Laurie Pressman, vice president, and Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, of the Pantone Color Institute, believe otherwise:

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid, but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

Regarding color association, yellow often elicits happiness or joy. Gray, on the other hand, is usually associated with negative emotions like fear or sadness. Pantone believes that they picked a mid-gray which can be more subjective, since it is not a “heavy” hue. Gray when used in fashion or jewelry is often associated with resilience or strength which is why they selected it.

However, the key is to not see these two colors separately, but together.

Pantone believed it goes to show that even these two colors that are so different from one another can be harmonious. In a world increasingly polarized and the pandemic still spreading, we need to focus more on solidarity and togetherness. We think Pantone is onto something...hopefully we will apply this to all aspects of our lives.

Urbane Builders

As we enter the last week of 2020, we wanted to end it by appreciating one of our clients, Urbane Builders. We have been periodically doing case studies on several of our amazing clients. Based in Los Angeles County, Urbane Builders is a successful design-build firm.

But it’s not just any design-build firm, Urbane Builders has a wide range of experience when it comes to building projects. One of their many reasons for their success is that they combine architecture, engineering and construction.

They’re a one stop shop for building needs kind of like we are a one stop shop for printing needs!

Urbane Builders builds new buildings whether it’s residential or commercial, but they also do renovations of previously built structures. One of the services they offer is earthquake retrofitting. Unlike other states, California is subject to earthquakes due to active fault lines. If you live in a home that does not offer structural protection in case of an earthquake, Urbane Builders can help you update your home via three different types of earthquake retrofitting: holdown brackets, cripple wall bracing, and foundation bolting.

When a client first comes to us at Axiom Print, an account manager is assigned to each client. Our account managers really take the time to understand each client and their business. Why?

Because each industry requires different types of marketing needs, and therefore different printing needs.

A building company needs at least these four basic marketing materials:

  1. Business Cards
  2. Flyers
  3. Coroplast Signs
  4. Vinyl Banners

Business cards are a no brainer. Flyers are easy to drop off in people’s mail or outside their doors. Coroplast signs and vinyl banners strongly help with brand recognition.

When you see an empty plot of land where construction is about to begin, hanging vinyl banners or sticking coroplast signs in the ground help people know which company will be building the property. And even if you are just doing renovations, you can plant a coroplast sign in the front yard for passersby to see. If you are a prospective client in a similar industry or you are unsure what marketing materials you may need, talk to us! We will help you get started.

Merry Christmas from Axiom Print

Merry Christmas from Axiom Print

Christmas is about joy, love and spirit. At Axiom Print, we aspire to always have those three things present in our lives and here’s what we mean. We are always finding ways to keep our employees happy. Giving our employees a place they are excited to come to work everyday is what we strive for. Love is the second component.

We are a family.

We think of our clients and employees as family. One of the many reasons we do express turnarounds and last minute projects is because that’s what we’d do for family. We’d go the extra mile to make sure our clients are happy.

That leads us to our third component: spirit. When our client is doing well and becoming even more successful, we are thrilled. We are excited that we were able to contribute to your success. Your success also makes us feel like we’ve grown with you. That’s the positive spirit we like to encompass at Axiom Print.

We will be closed on December 24-25 so our employees can spend quality time with their families.

Christmas Gift Wrapping Supplies

11 days until Christmas! At this time, we assume you’ve probably bought your presents already unless you’re a procrastinator like many of us! If you have bought your presents, this upcoming weekend you’re probably wrapping them and then shipping them out. When it comes to Christmas, gift wrapping is almost as important as the present itself.

Okay, maybe not almost as important, but it is important. Why? Because when we’re little, we are told that Santa’s helpers are busy wrapping the gifts and loading them onto Santa’s sleigh. Even though we know Santa is not real, there is a beautiful childlike feeling that stays with us...and that’s waking up to gift wrapped presents under the tree.

The surprise and anticipation early Christmas morning is incomparable to any other holiday.

Here are our top five recommendations on items you could use to make your gift memorable:

  1. Christmas Greeting Cards - come in a set of 6 different cards (with foil and raised spot UV) and matching festive green envelopes and stickers to seal the envelope.
  2. To/From Christmas Stickers on a Sheet - comes in a set of 5 different sheet designs
  3. Christmas Hangtags - come in a set of 6 shapes
  4. To/From Christmas Sticker Roll - comes with 10 different designs that repeat
  5. Acrylic Ornaments - come in a set of 7 shapes, but you can mix and match them

You may be wondering why the acrylic ornaments are on a lift for gift wrapping? Because you can use acrylic ornaments as alternatives to stickers or hangtags. You can use ribbon to tie them to the gift and it also serves as a mini gift before the main present...since they can actually use it as an ornament hanging from their tree.

Not only are our prices affordable, but we are offering large quantities especially with the stickers so they will last you for years...unless you have an ENORMOUS Christmas list.

Christmas Gifting Ideas

18 days until Christmas, have you bought your presents this year? As most people will be shopping online due to the pandemic, we encourage you to order something unique for your loved ones. Anyone can buy a coffee mug or sweater. Most people buy these types of products on their own when they need them, so give them something so personal that they can’t buy it anywhere else.

Personalized gifts are always the way to go, especially if you’re shopping for adults. If you send someone a group photo on a canvas, or a piece of artwork from an artist someone really loves, that will be more meaningful than any random commercial item.

Photos of family or friends are the most popular when it comes to personalized gifting.

Here are some other ideas on what to print this Christmas:

  • A photo of an event or place you went together (not necessarily including people)
  • A photo of your pet or pets
  • Artwork that you created yourself

Here are our top six recommendations on what to do once you’ve picked out your photo or artwork to gift:

  1. Cardboard Puzzle
  2. Canvas Wrap
  3. 5 Piece Gatorboard Wall Display
  4. Standalone Acrylic Photo Frame
  5. Foldable Acrylic Photo Frame
  6. Acrylic Ornaments

The standalone acrylic photo frame and acrylic ornaments are small enough that they could work as stocking stuffers too.

Or if you are thinking of something that is on their Christmas list, you can always add a personalized gift to it since our prices are quite affordable. You can’t go wrong ordering any of these products; they will be sure to bring a smile and maybe even tears of joy!

Importance of Greeting Cards

Importance of Greeting Cards

Importance of Greeting Cards

Every year on Christmas morning, Greta wakes up early to unwrap the gifts under her Christmas tree. She sees a gift with a card addressed to her. She opens the card first. The card is from her grandma whom she hasn’t been able to see in several months due to her being far away. She reads the beautiful message from her grandma and when she opens the gift, it’s far more meaningful than if she had received the same gift without a card.

Receiving a sentimental message from the gifter emotionally connects you to the gift, which makes the gift that much sweeter.

The idea of writing a positive greeting or message dates back to the Egyptians. In the New Year, people were gifted scent bottles with an inscription. Romans would do something similar with lamps and have an inscription. In the 1400s, Europeans would engrave inscriptions on wood which is the closest to the modern day greeting cards since it was just a piece of wood with a message from the heart. In the 1700s and 1800s, people started engraving messages on sheets of copper. According to most historians, the very first Christmas greeting card dates back to 1840 in England where a thousand copies were printed to be sold. Twenty years later in 1860, greeting cards became a commercialized product.

The intent all throughout the centuries has been the same, to pass on good and loving sentiment to someone else.

Whether it be a friend or familial relationship, greetings cards are here to stay. There’s no denying the warm and cozy feeling you get when you open a card and see a handwritten message from a loved one. This Christmas, either print your own custom designs of greeting cards from us or order one of our readymade sets. Our set of 6 uniquely designed cards come with elements of foil and raised spot UV to stand out. Plus, they come with beautiful green envelopes and stickers to seal the cards.
